What are my favorite cities for food?

New Orleans is on everyone’s list. But why it makes my list is the food items that are iconic to the city. From beignets to muffalettas and po’ boys. San Francisco for the wide range of cuisines that you can find in the city. And Charleston, SC. I fell in love with this city on my visit. Southern charm with a big foodie scene.

What are my favorite restaurants?

Graffiato (italian-inspired) Washington, DC, Family Meal (modern diner) Frederick, MD and Vermillion (farm-driven americana) in Alexandria, VA. From places I have traveled: Husk (southern) Charleston, SC, Spiaggia (italain) Chicago, IL, AdHoc (informal americana) Yountsville, CA and The Columbia Tampa, FL (cuban food; closest to the way my mom use to make.)

What are my favorite food experiences?

I like exploring the city that I am traveling to by taking a food walking tour. They give you a good lay of the land and help in planning where to eat in the city. And, another benefit of taking a food tour: you walk off the calories you eat! Check out my blog post on Charleston’s Food Tour.

The OxBow Public Market in Napa, CA has great food. I love that I could get gifts for my foodie friends and eat some amazing things all under one roof. It was a great place to stop before you hitting the wineries. You can pick up picnic items to complement some of the area’s wonderful wines.

America Eats when it was located in downtown Washington, DC, they had a full tasting meal in conjunction with an exhibit that was at the National Archives celebrating the history of food in the United States. Each dish was amazing and paid tribute to different regions of the U.S.
