I am crazy about this sandwich! Vermillion menu always seems to take advantage of what is in season. This sandwich is just delicious. The star is the oven roasted butternut squash which is caramelized. Layered with fresh, creamy ricotta, baby arugula and apples as they note on the menu, served 2 ways. Very thinly, sliced, crisp apples and a applesauce/chutney that has a bite of cinnamon and allspice. It is served perfectly on a toasted ciabatta roll. All the flavors are combined perfectly to make this an amazing sandwich. Delicious! The side of greens with is tossed in a light vinaigrette lets the sandwich shine. If you are in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia doing some holiday shopping, make a stop at Vermillion for lunch and enjoy this sandwich. You will not be disappointed.
I went to lunch with some of my coworkers the other day. I was ready to order one of their Power Lunch Boxes from the menu. One of my coworkers said how he had been to Vermillion the day before and how he got the chef’s burger. He told us how decadent it was with “chicken fried” bacon on it. Chicken fried bacon? Really? This I had to try. First of all the burger was so juicy. Thick and meaty. It was covered with tillamook cheddar and topped with escarole greens. But, look at that bacon! Thick slices of bacon battered. It usually comes with fries but I had to make myself feel like I was eating something that was good for me. I enjoyed each bite.
It was well worth splurging on this dish.
Boccato gelato in Old Town Alexandria. Great flavors. Tried the Mango, Ferrero Rocher Chocolate and Guava. Ended up with a scoop of the Mango which takes me back to family vacations to Miami Beach and an exotic ice cream store with tropical flavors. Delicious! Creamy, refreshing and sweet. On the way out of the store, I saw they had Nutella Lattes. This is a dangerous thing to know!
At Rustico. Spicy lamb with feta makes it a great combo.
